Abstract
Felt report from Mississippi Territory for the December 16, 1811 earthquake “About 3 o’clock of the morning of the 16th inst. Our whole Territory were much alarmed by a very severe shock of an Earthquake. We also felt two shocks about 7 of the same morning, and another about 10 o’clock the day after. So great was the agitation of the Mississippi at the Chickasaw bluffs that it drove a boat, ( the owner of which has just told me the tale) about 40 yards upon a sand bar, and left him high and dry, and it took him three days to get his boat into the water again.”
