Abstract
Further analysis of earthquake felt area in the United States for the December 16, 1811 earthquake. Notes that later reports show that the earthquake was felt on the east coast and was felt more strongly the further one went.
Transcript
The Earthquake not having been noticed in the National Intelligencer of December 17, the day after the principle shock, gave rise to an opinion previous to our last publication, that it had not passed the Alleghany. But papers since received from Washington City, and various parts of Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia, state its occurrence in those places; and it appears to have been more violent at the most southern parts from which we have heard, than here. It is said to have been attended in several places by flashes of lightning. This corroborates the opinion of some philosophers, that Earthquakes are frequently caused by electricity.
