Description
This is a pot sherd to which an appliqué ceramic effigy of a human face is still attached. While the rest of the pot was apparently never recovered, this sherd + effigy fragment is a body sherd, so we at least know that this decoration was located somewhere on the body of the original vessel. Whether the vessel was a jar, which would necessarily place the effigy element on the exterior of the body, or whether the vessel was a bowl, which could situate the effigy element on either the exterior or interior of the body, cannot be determined.
