Plain english? A study of plain english vocabulary and international audiences
Abstract
Investigates the use of phrasal verbs and the choice of more "common" English vocabulary, usually Germanic in derivation ◆ Finds that non-native speakers may not acquire idiomatic meanings of phrasal verbs and that French speakers preferred Latinate vocabulary.
