The Tennessee Department of Education supervises the allocation of funds appropriated as state and federal aid to public education.
During the 1st Extraordinary Session in January 2025, the Tennessee General Assembly passed the Tennessee Education Freedom Scholarship (EFS) Act (Chapter 7 of the Public Acts of 2025, 1st Extraordinary Session). The EFS Program allows eligible students to use state funds toward education expenses at non-public schools located in Tennessee.
