The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is responsible for preserving, managing, enhancing, and protecting the state’s wildlife populations and their habitats. The Agency is also responsible for boating safety. TWRA is governed by a thirteen-member Fish and Wildlife Commission, which includes nine members appointed by the Governor, two appointed by the Speaker of the Senate, and two appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Major functions of the Agency include the land management of 1.6 million acres of public lands; enhancing Tennessee’s wildlife and fisheries; hunting and boating law enforcement; operation of shooting ranges, hatcheries, and wildlife management areas; hunter and boating education; conservation education; habitat protection; non-game or endangered species management; boating access area development; and the regulation of hunting seasons and bag limits, fishing regulations, and creel limits.
