Abstract

his article highlights key themes of resilience, community, and support within graduate education at the University of Memphis. Featuring reflections from Dr. Deborah Tollefsen, Vice Provost & Dean of the Graduate School, the piece explores the reality of imposter syndrome and the critical role of faculty mentorship in fostering student confidence and growth. It reinforces the message that graduate education is a process of development, not perfection, and that students are admitted because they truly belong. The article also introduces the newly elected Graduate Student Association Executive Board, spotlights both on- and off-campus study spaces available to graduate students and shares important upcoming academic dates and events. Together, these features celebrate the academic journey while emphasizing well-being, leadership, and community engagement.
