Abstract
Does the Bible support any form of feminist thought? To answer this question, one must understand the divide within the feminist movement in the 1970s that split the feminist agenda into two types - equality feminism vs gender feminism. My research examines popular literature in this time period to discover the differences between these two lines of thought. My study focuses on Jesus's dialogue with the Samaritan Woman in John 4.1-45, and His conversation with Mary Magdalene in John 20.11-18. I also discuss Paul's command on marriage to women in Ephesians 5.21-33. I analyze and compare evangelical interpretations of these respective passages to both equality feminism and gender feminism ideology. I conclude by answering if one can be an evangelical feminist.
