John Shaw Field Recordings

These are digitiziations of audio field recordings made primarily on cassette (some late ones were digital recordings made by digital recorders or cellphones) by Dr. John Shaw , beginning in the early 1980s and extending throughout his career as a musician and ethnomusicologist. They consist of drumline and band recordings, jazz and blues recordings, interviews and a small number of radio airchecks. The material may be used for non-profit purposes with attribution, but requests to use for any other purpose must be directed to Dr. Shaw at [email protected]. Prices for commercial use will be via negotiation and at his discretion. In certain instances where field recordings are of specific individuals or groups, no commercial or for-profit purpose will be permitted without the consent of not only Dr. Shaw, but the person or group recorded or their heirs or legal representatives. It should also be noted that some of the musical or advertising content in aircheck cassettes may be under copyright. No use of these materials shall be permitted without attribution.
