Description
Studio portrait of a woman sitting. Above her head is the French inscription, "Type d'une negresse civilisee a Kinshasa." Loosely translated the inscription reads, "Example of a Civilized Negro Woman from Kinshasa." Note: This is an example of colonial photography used to acquaint European audiences with life in the former African colonies and expresses the racial views of Europeans in 20th century.
