    Description

    Petition for suffrage created by Lide Meriwether. The petition lays out why suffrage is important to the women of Tennessee. She points out that women were in the same class as criminals, minors, pauper, and aliens and wished to establish equal rights for women. This lead to the creation of the Tennessee Equal Rights Association, in which she was unanimously elected president.
