Description

Letter to Senator John Sharp Williams from Charles P. Simonton. The letter addresses how women's suffrage will double the Democratic party's "negro problem in the south" and hopes that there will be an amendment to the bill that will limit suffrage to those women that have been naturalized citizens for a number of years. Simonton believes that this will limit the amount of influence "foreign-born but naturalized citizens" have in general elections. This document was included in the exhibit "Suffrage First: Tennessee and Women's Right to Vote."
