Abstract
This collection contains correspondence from the Snowden family, who were a prominent family in Memphis, TN, during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There is also correspondence between the Snowdens and extended relations in the Cairns, Fargason, and Ward families. In addition, the collection consists of photographs, documents, publications, scrapbooks, recipe books, blueprints, personal artwork, diaries, and newspaper clippings that give a glimpse into the private lives of the Snowden family. These generations of Snowden family members were descendants from: John Overton (1766-1833), a founder of the city of Memphis, lawyer, and advisor to Andrew Jackson; Robert Campbell Brinkley (1816-1878), a Memphis businessman and attorney; John Bayard Snowden (1808-1863), a Nashville, TN, businessman and dry goods merchant; and Robert Bogardus (1771-1841), a Revolutionary War General.
