Abstract

Ronald "Butch" Alford was a public relations professional who worked in several different arenas in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked in the Associated Press' Memphis Bureau, and incorrectly reported the death of James Meredith in 1966. Alford also worked on the Memphis Board of Review, an appointment that would make him and others responsible for enforcing Memphis' anti-obscenity ordinance. Alford also volunteered his time for two presidential visits to Memphis in 1976 and 1978.
