Description

Steamboat “Henry Frank” loaded with 9226 bales of cotton destined for New Orleans, April 1881. Lowenthal image reproduced by Blanks, Vicksburg, Mississippi. This shipment was the largest load of cotton transported by steamboat on the Mississippi River, plus 250 tons of other freight. The "Henry Frank" was built in 1878 for the Memphis-New Orleans trade. It burned at Davis Creek Bend, 22 miles above New Orleans, on October 2, 1884.
