Description
Participants in the Young People’s General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church held at Ovoca, Tennessee, in July around 1935. The photographer was J.E. Follis Studio, Tullahoma, Tennessee. Names noted on the photograph include: Mary Elizabeth Rogers, Cordova, Tenn., Hazel Trent, Knoxville, Tenn., Rev. J.S. Armentrout, Flynn G. Humphreys, E.N. Hart, Mrs. C.M. Yeager, Ensley, Ala., Susan Houk, Knoxville, Penn., Martha Sparks, Ensley, Ala., Dorothy Campbell, Humboldt, Tenn., Mary Bob Bevan, Knoxville, Tenn., Elizabeth Wilhorte, Goodlettsville, Tenn., Danny Sue Morgan, Christiana, Tenn., Marion Robson, Birmingham, Ala.
The Young People’s General Assembly was held in Tennessee in 1925, from 1927 to 1947, and from 1951 to 1956. Sites included First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Nashville; Bethel College, McKenzie; Ovoca; Shelby Forest State Park; and Chickasaw State Park. The Assembly became the National Association of Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Fellowship in 1957 and the Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Conference in 1970.
