    Description

Montgomery Park racetrack at the Tri-State Fairgrounds, Memphis, Tennessee, circa 1929.

The Montgomery Park horse track was built in the 1850s on land that is now the Mid-South Fairgrounds. The Tennessee Derby was run there until 1906, at which time gambling was outlawed in Tennessee, but harness racing and dog racing continued until the 1930s. In 1923, the Zippin Pippin rollercoaster (in the background) also moved to the park.

Also included are images of the Tri-State Fair taken by the same unknown photographer.
