    Description

House belonging to Adolph Bertig in Paragould, Arkansas, December 1926. Bertig (1853-1926) had recently committed suicide when this photograph was taken. He was once dubbed the "Merchant Prince of Paragould" because he and his brothers not only ran Bertig Bros. department store but many other businesses in the area until the collapse of the Paragould Trust Company and falling cotton prices led to the failure of his empire.
