Description

Constructed on the former Watkins Overton property, this building opened in 1924 to replace the building on Lamar Avenue that was sold to the U.S. Veterans Bureau to become Hospital No. 88. Methodist Hospital had originally opened in the Lucy Brinkley Hospital building at 855 Union Avenue in 1918, had moved to the Lamar Avenue building when it opened in 1921 and then returned to the Lucy Brinkley building in 1922 when the Lamar building became a Veterans Hospital. The Lucy Brinkley building closed and became the Blackstone Hotel and then the George Vincent Hotel.
