Description

Natchez, a Southern black bear, was kept chained to a tree in Overton Park, Memphis, Tennessee, and was the mascot of the Memphis Turtles baseball team. The first permanent bear enclosure was created for him at Overton Park and these cages would then grow to become the Overton Park Zoo. Photograph taken by Lawrence H. Wyckoff of Memphis in March 1905.
