Students struggle for the flagpole on the Memphis State University campus, Memphis, Tennessee, in front of the Administration Building on May 6, 1970, in the wake of the Kent State University killings the previous day. Some students wanted to lower the flag in memory of the students killed during an anti-Vietnam war protest at Kent State University in Ohio while others were opposed leading to heightened tensions and a few skirmishes.
