Description
In June 1954, a group of African American students attempted to gain admission to Memphis State College but were denied. Standing on the Administration Building steps are (front, left to right) Elijah Noel, Nellie Peoples, Mardest Knowles, Ruth Booker, Joseph McGhee Jr., Rev. Van J. Malone (President, Memphis NAACP), and (back, left to right) J.F. Estes (attorney), and Dovie Booker.
