Description
Located at 286 Jefferson Avenue, this building was constructed in 1894 as the Fowlkes Grammar School. Eight years later, it became an annex to the Memphis Technical High School. In 1926 it became the "Part Time School" for students who worked full time jobs and was commonly known as the Jefferson Street School. It closed in 1945 and the building later became the headquarters for the Girls Club of Memphis and the first home of WKNO (1956-1961). It sat vacant for a few years until it caught fire in 1964 and had to be demolished.
