Description
The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company plant opened its Memphis plant in 1937 just north of downtown. It was Memphis largest industrial employer and the largest tire manufacturer in the company's entire worldwide operation. The factory closed in 1983, affecting nearly 2000 workers.
