Description
An undated view of the Lincoln American Tower on North Main Street from Court Square. The 22-story tower was built for the Columbian Mutual Insurance Company, later the Lincoln American Insurance Company, in 1924 and was initially known as the Columbian Mutual Tower. In the foreground is the Hebe Fountain in Court Square erected in 1876. The photograph was submitted to "The Commercial Appeal" in 1947 by Mrs. Mary E. Spann to show what the fountain looked like before the statue was knocked off its pedestal by wind in 1942. It was restored in 1949.
