Description

Paddle steamer "Belle Carol" near Mud Island, Memphis, Tennessee, with the view upstream of the Mississippi River and the Hernando de Soto Bridge under construction on December 28, 1971. Photographer: Bob Williams.

Designed to connect Arkansas and Memphis, construction of the bridge began in 1967 and the first automobile traffic began using it in August 1973.
