Since it opened as a 150-bed hospital in 1912, Baptist was considered a city landmark. The hospital underwent numerous expansions reaching its highest point in 1967 with the completion of an18-story tower when it became the largest private hospital in the world with 2,000 beds. It was demolished on November 6, 2005.
