A clipping from the "Commercial Appeal" newspaper in Memphis, Tennessee, titled “Only Woman Deputy Clerk in the State Under Recently Enacted Law” published on May 16, 1909. The article notes the appointment of Lucile Ing Pennel as deputy county clerk of Tipton County, Tennessee. She was the only woman to hold such a position in Tennessee as a result of the lobbying of Charles P. Simonton, the county clerk. Lucile was the daughter of Simonton's predecessor and she and Simonton married in 1913.
