Description

A tintype of Griffin Augustus Stanton (1835-1889) of Johnson County, Illinois, and his wife Julia Ann(e) Levada Amburn Stanton (1842-1890) holding their son William (identified as Willis) (1868-1872) around 1870.

Griffin was originally from Barlow, Washington County, Ohio, and Julia's family was from Lumpkin County, Georgia. They married in Union County, Illinois, on May 1, 1866, and had six children. The family moved to Oregon around 1880, settling in East Portland, Multnomah County. The tintype is from Griffin's Bible and is identified on the back.
