Description
An undated tintype image of William Griffin Stanton, the father of Griffin A. Stanton. William was born in Paris, Oneida County, New York, on June 13, 1805, the son of Asahel (1778-1849) and Martha Bell Stanton (died 1855). The family moved to Barlow, Washington County, Ohio. William married Eliza Olney (born 1814 in LeRoy, Genesee County, New York) and the family moved to Johnson County, Illinois, to farm. William died on December 15, 1889. The tintype is from Griffin Stanton's Bible and was identified on the reverse of the photograph.
