Days of Anguish, Days of Hope, 1993
Article titled "Days of Anguish, Days of Hope" by Virginia M. Davis which appeared in Volume 11, Number 4, of "Memphis State Magazine", the Memphis State University alumni magazine in 1993. Jack Gates talked about his time as a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II and the article is illustrated with images of his diaries and photographs. Gates included the article in his binder: “My Diary of Three and One Half Years As a Japanese P.O.W.”.

J. Jack Gates diaries transcription
Transcription of the diary entries made by Jack Gates in his Bible and four notebooks from 1942 to 1945. Gates kept a fairly regular diary throughout his time as a prisoner of war in The Philippines and Japan. The transcription was prepared by his wife Eula.

An article titled "Survival Salute: Ex-POW Recalls Ordeal of 50 Years Ago" written by William Thomas which appeared in Memphis' "The Commercial Appeal" newspaper on April 9, 1992. Jack Gates recalls his time as a prisoner of war and includes excerpts from his diaries. Gates included a copy of the article in his binder “My Diary of Three and One Half Years As a Japanese P.O.W.”.
