    Description

Universal Life Insurance, Memphis, Tennessee. Linden and Danny Thomas. Built in 1949. Photographer: Alan Karchmer. © Alan Karchmer.

This structure exhibits some of the Egyptian Revival's most notable characteristics; especially the gorge and roll cornice above the entrances. Note also the columns resembling tied bunches of stalks, and the vulture and sun disc symbol.

As buildings in the Beaux Arts Style were being constructed, there followed an era of academic revivalism. Architects of these structures modeled their designs on a variety of antique precedents.
