Description
Residence, 1803 Harbert, Memphis, Tennessee. Built around 1920. Photographer: Alan Karchmer. © Alan Karchmer.
This house reflects the influences of Frank Lloyd Wright's residential work of the time. Its design may have been taken from a series of plans Wright executed for 'Better Homes & Gardens' about this time.
Even as the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright came about as a highly personal expression, his influence - direct and indirect - on the course of Modern Architecture has been great. His work stressed natural use of native materials as he liberated interior spaces to flow smoothly one into another. His form and, indeed, his detailing were highly geometric.
