Description
Residence, 301 S. Lauderdale, Memphis, Tennessee. Built in 1904. Photographer: Alan Karchmer. © Alan Karchmer.
The Eastlake Style, named for the British architect Charles Eastlake, is distinguished from the Queen Anne Style by subtleties in its ornamentation achieved with the chisel, gouge, and the lathe. Curved brackets are used in excess; posts and columns tend to resemble table legs.
