Edward H. Crump, Public Enemy No. 1, 1932
Booklet written by R.E. Johnson and published in 1932 by the Loyal Tennesseans League of Memphis titled "Edward H. Crump, Public Enemy No. 1". The League supported former Tennessee governor Malcolm R. Patterson in the 1932 Democratic Party gubernatorial primary against Hill McAlister who was backed by Memphis political boss and U.S. Congressman Edward H. Crump. The booklet attacked Crump for corruption and encouraging African Americans to participate in the primary in support of his candidate. It also contains a membership coupon on the last page. The League claimed to stand for “A white democracy, the purity of the ballot, protection of white women, repeal of the state land tax, [and] a clean economical government.” McAlister won the primary and the subsequent election.
