Description

Copy photograph of the collapsed wooden falsework at Pier IV of the Harahan Bridge being constructed over the Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee, in December 1915. The river washed away the span from Piers III-IV on December 24, delaying construction and forcing a redesign of the span. The bridge opened on July 14, 1916. A second photograph of the damage is included.
