Description

Image of a biplane with Union Trust Co., Little Rock, written on the side. It is inscribed: "To my friend Phoebe Omlie who helped make The Arkansas Air Tour such a success, Charlie Taylor, 11/24/28."

Charles Edward Taylor was an American inventor, mechanic and machinist. He built the first aircraft engine used by the Wright brothers in the Wright Flyer, and was a vital contributor of mechanical skills in the building and maintaining of early Wright engines and airplanes. Taylor received little recognition for his contributions to aviation during his lifetime, but posthumously, he is known as a man of aviation “firsts” — including the first aviation mechanic, the first airport manager, and the first air disaster investigator.
