Description
Meridian Female college and Conservatory of Music, Meridian, Mississippi, circa 1905.
John Wesley Beeson founded the Meridian Female College in 1903. A Conservatory of Music was added in 1904, and the school was renamed the Meridian Woman' College and Conservatory of Music. Malcolm Beeson had established the Meridian Male College in 1901 and in 1914 the two were combined on the Woman's College site and the coeducational school became the Meridian College and Conservatory. Beeson sold the college around 1919, and it later became a Black college before closing down in 1929. The school was demolished around 1932.
