    Description

Undated view of the Market House on the corner of Beale and Hernando Streets, Memphis, Tennessee.

From 1859 to 1898, the South Market House stood on the site, one of two in the city, where farmers and merchants had stalls to sell produce and goods to Memphians. This new brick building replaced the old market, only to be torn down to build Handy Park in the late 1930s.
