"Christmas Carols" compiled by Alice Margaret Huggins, 1937
"Christmas Carols", a booklet of sheet music of 50 Christmas songs with lyrics in Chinese, compiled by Alice Margaret Huggins of the Goodrich Girl's School in Tunghsien (Tongzhou district), Peiping (Beijing), China, dated June 1937. The school was founded by Mrs. Chauncey Goodrich in 1905 and comprised a primary school and the first year of junior high school for 190 students in 1920. Alice Huggins was born in 1891 near Overbrook, Kansas, to Harry and Jessie Huggins, one of a family of four girls and two boys. She moved to Topeka in 1900, graduated from Washburn University in 1912 and obtained a masters degree in teaching from Columbia University. She and her sister Mabel taught in Topeka before becoming missionary teachers in China in 1917. Huggins later became principal of the Goodrich School, was held prisoner for two years by the Japanese during World War II and stayed in China for a time after the revolution. She wrote a number of books and died in 1971.
