Description
Image of the sternwheeler "Joe Fowler" taken by Captain Jesse P. Hughes of Cincinnati attached to a 1958 Christmas card. There is no information on where and when the photograph was taken. Hughes worked for the Greene Line for many years as a pilot and manager. The sternwheeler "Joe Fowler" was built at Jeffersonville, Indiana, by the Howard Shipyard in 1888 for the Fowler family. It was designed to run in the Evansville-Paducah trade. The boat was rebuilt in 1912 and continued to operate on the Ohio River until it was sold in 1917 and renamed the "Crescent". A fire destroyed it in 1920.
