Description

A panoramic image of the industrial district of south Memphis, taken by John Calvin Coovert (1862-1937) in 1908. The factories are numbered and the corresponding names are written along the bottom of the image. Some of the 22 companies include: Memphis Car Manufacturing Company, American Bag Company, South Memphis Brick Company, Lee Wilson Lumber Company, Nolan Brothers, Memphis Cotton Oil Mills, Electric Light and Power Company, and Ryan Brothers. The original photograph showed at least 27 companies but part of the photograph is missing on the right side.
