Description
Memphis Navy Yard, Memphis, Tennessee, Amount of Embankment to be made West of Wolf River 622, 400 cubic yards, undated. Map shows existing buildings and proposed ones. Notes whole amount of embankment yet to be made east of Wolf River 421, 896 cubic yards, June 6, 1851. Work on the facility was authorized in 1844 but full funding was not forthcoming, and the hemp rope factory was deemed insufficient reason for Congress subsequently to maintain the yard so it was closed in 1854.
