Dr. Benjamin Hooks, a U of M distinguished faculty member, has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush, who called Hooks "a calm yet forceful voice for fairness, opportunity and personal responsibility." The medal, presented by President Bush at the White House, represents the nation's highest civilian honor and recognizes contributions to peace and freedom.
