“Wait, We’re Drawing?”: Treating First-Year Students to Making Art in the Library Orientation
Abstract
In the years 2021-2023, instruction librarians at McWherter Library at the University of Memphis taught a one-shot session that made intentional use of visual pedagogy to encourage first-year student engagement in library orientation. This conference proceeding discusses the lesson plan and, briefly, our analysis of the two forms of assessment we collected. We will review the drawings the students produced, the survey results at the end of the lesson, and how we used these findings to review the successes and limitations of the lesson plan.
