Description

The collection contains correspondence, financial and other papers of Robert Bogardus Snowden (1808-1863), his sister Mary Jay Snowden Cairns (1846-1930), and Mary's three children: Bayard, Douglas, and Elizabeth. The bulk of the correspondence is among family members but also includes a small amount of political and business correspondence. The collection documents the private lives of a wealthy family in Memphis in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
