Description
In a June 26, 1955, Commercial Appeal story titled "Grandfather of the Blues", Henry Wright plays piano while George W. Lee, Wright's former employer at the Atlantic Life Insurance Company, looks on, Memphis, Tennessee, 1955.
Wright had worked at Memphis clubs in the early twentieth century and developed a slower rhythm to enable him to play the long hours required. W.C. Handy heard Wright one evening, and his piano playing inspired Handy's Blues compositions.
