    Description

Cartoon by Commercial Appeal cartoonist Cal Alley of columnist Paul Flowers as Pan, 1955.

According to the story published in Flowers' 1967 edition of "The Greenhouse" (p.79), a compilation of his Commercial Appeal columns that year, in 1955 his portrait by Leny Wacht was due to be unveiled by former Memphis mayor Walter Chandler and Dr. Marshall Wingfield. As a prank, Alley slipped the cartoon under the cloth draped over the painting and his "picture" was revealed when the cloth was removed. A copy of the story with photographs is included.

Flowers later used the cartoon on his notecards (copy included).
