Document (copy), "Oath of Allegiance", Alex M. Jones, Jackson, Tennessee, 1862 July 7.
"Oath of Allegiance...Abjuring all allegiance to the so-called 'Confederate States of America'; I do solemnly swear, that I will support the Constitution of, and bear true and faithful Allegiance to the 'United States of America', So help me God."
This collection consists of letters, business documents, and personal papers and belongings owned by Alexander M. Jones, a Confederate soldier, Sarah “Sallie” J. Jones, and their extended families. The Joneses and their extended families lived in the Southern United States pre-, peri-, and post-Civil War.
