Image of English actress Marie Tempest (1864-1942), her biographer Hector Bolitho (1897-1974) (center), and Tempest's third husband, William Graham Browne (1870-1937), undated.
Marie Tempest was the stage name of Dame Mary Etherington. She was a famous soprano in light opera and musical comedies before becoming a leading comic actress. Bolitho published his biography of her in 1936.
